Innovation is the critical driver of progress and success, and there is perhaps no better way to foster innovation than through STEM education. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education teaches students the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in computer science, medicine, engineering, and beyond. However, more than teaching these subjects in a vacuum is required. Structured learning is crucial to ensure that students can fully engage with and apply what they learn. That’s where Inventionland Education’s innovation course comes in.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in STEM occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations for at least the next ten years.

U.S. Department of Education Launches “YOU Belong in STEM” Initiative to Enhance STEM Education for All Young People

October 12, 2022 —Today, the U.S. Department of Education (Department) launched “YOU Belong in STEM,” an initiative to galvanize the broad STEM education ecosystem to implement and scale equitable and high-quality STEM education for all young people from Pre-K to higher education. U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten discussed the initiative today at the STEMconnector and Million Women Mentors Summit in Washington, D.C.

Every parent knows how difficult it can be to tear your child away from their screens. You’ve likely tried to start a conversation with your child amidst their favorite show only to be met with shushes or complete silence. You’ve also likely walked into a room and witnessed your child engaging with three layers of screens all at once: TV, laptop, phone. As much as you wish your child was more passionate about STEM/STEAM passions, you just can’t seem to get them interested or engaged. Well, there are techniques you can integrate into your house that will allow your kids to get both the screen time they crave and the STEAM time that they’ll soon come to love.

It’s a startling statistic…of the over eight million STEAM jobs out there (and that number is increasing every day), only 15% are filled by women. The world has been trying to entice more and more girls to pursue STEAM careers at an early age with toy companies like GoldieBlox, with after-school clubs and summer workshops that encourage girls to pursue the field, and even with full scholarships to universities specifically for women pursuing STEAM degrees. But what if one of the ways to seamlessly get more girls interested in STEAM careers is to have them do something you normally tell them to stay away from?
